Equine Hoof Treatment

A Common Cause of Lameness

Hoof injury

Hoof Wall Cracks, especially those in the quarter and heel region, are a common cause of foot lameness. Hoof cracks have a multitude of causes. Excessively wet or dry conditions may lead to hoof cracks. Wide, flared out edges, or poorly fitted shoes, can also cause the hoof to crack. The horny hoof wall often fails internally before the crack propagates externally.

A Life Saving Treatment

ACell Vet’s extracellular matrix technology (ECM) enables horses to re-grow lost or damaged hoof tissue. For horses with severe injuries, this alternative offers a life-saving treatment.

ACell Vet devices promote healing of the foot by fibroblast migration and increasing vascularization to the area. Collagen is then secreted and gives strength to the wound. As a result, epithelialization then occurs followed by maturation of the tissue.

A New Hoof Can be Regenerated

ACell Vet devices provide the necessary collagen, growth factors and attraction of mesenchymal stem cells to the affected areas. Therefore, a more complete recapitulation of the tissue occurs. Over time a new hoof can be regenerated with little or no scar tissue.
