Burn Treatment

Burns Cause Pain and Disfigurement

Paw burn

Burns can be categorized as thermal, chemical and electrical. Regardless of the source of injury, burns are a major concern because they are painful and subject to infection. Traditional treatment methods offer little to limit the pain and extreme disfigurement associated with burn injuries.

A New Approach to a Common Injury

ACell Vet’s Extracellular Matrix Technology offers a new approach to this common injury. The epithelial basement membrane (smooth side) of the ACell Vet lyophilized sheet encourages epithelial cell growth. This feature allows many burns to heal with little or no scarring. In addition, the application of ACell Vet products provides analgesic properties so the treatment appears to be well tolerated by patients.

Both Sheet and Powder Forms are Used for Deep Burns

The ACell Vet lyophilized sheet is applied to the burn site with the basement membrane side up. The sheet should be covered with a non-adherent dressing and, if possible, a bandage. If it is not possible to bandage the injury, the sheet may be tacked into place with stay sutures. For deep burns, ACell Vet Powder should be sprinkled into the wound before applying the sheet.
