Dr. Rick Mitchell
Dr. Mitchell has a special interest in equine sports medicine with a particular interest in lameness and performance problems. He has worked for many internationally recognized trainers and has served as the Official Veterinarian to the United States Equestrian Team for the Pan American Games, World Equestrian Games and the Olympic Games.
Dr. Mitchell has served on multiple Boards of Directors including the American Horse Shows Association (USAE), the Connecticut Veterinary Medical Association and the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP). He has served on advisory boards for Boerhinger, Pfizer, and IDEXX pharmaceuticals.
Dr. Mitchell has presented lectures for many veterinary medical societies in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Europe. He has authored numerous papers on equine transport, lameness and equine gastric ulcer syndrome. Most recently he Co-authored two chapters in Ross and Dyson's new publication, Diagnosis and Management of Lameness in the Horse.
Being an avid horseman, Rick has an Appaloosa World Championship (1977) and a National Championship (1982) to his credit, as well as most recently winning the North American League Adult Jumper Championships at Harrisburg, Pa. in 1999.
