Abdominal Surgery
Infection, Leakage and Adhesions are Potential Complications
Abdominal surgery is often necessary to remove a tumor or foreign body, evaluate trauma, or perform a hernia repair. Furthermore, many problems related to internal organs can be addressed with exploratory abdominal surgery. As with any surgery, there is a list of potential complications. Infection, leakage and adhesions are of special concern with abdominal surgery.
ACell Vet Has Been Shown to Reduce Complications
ACell Vet devices, featuring extracellular matrix technology, offer a scientifically advanced approach to reduce possible surgical complications. When applied over a surgical repair, such as an anastomosis or enterotomy, the ACell Vet product will prevent leakage and has been shown to prevent adhesions. Furthermore, it also has anti-infective properties that are very beneficial for such surgery. The matrix is eventually resorbed and replaced after recruiting progenitor cells to regenerate new site-specific tissue.
The ACell Vet lyophilized sheet is applied to the surgical area after routine closure with the basement membrane layer facing away from the organ surface. The sheet is simply sutured in place with absorbable stay sutures.
